WHERE TO STAY IN SALT LAKE CITY
Surrounded by mountains and water, Salt Lake City lies nestled up against the Wasatch Mountains to the east. At the north end of the valley, the foothills of the Wasatch wrap around the Avenues and downtown Salt Lake. The Salty Lake itself lies to the west, along with a smaller mountain range, the Oquirrhs, while the valley spreads out broadly towards the south until it meets Utah Lake.
I work out of several studios, all located in the Sugarhouse area (along 1000 East or 1100 East, and between 1800 South and 2100 South). However, a number of small neighborhoods are all grouped very close together, near downtown in the northeast part of the city. When looking for a hotel or Airbnb, any of the following neighborhoods will put you within a 2-10 minute drive of the studios. I have put them in order of distance from the studios:
Sugarhouse - the closest, lots of little shops and eateries within walking distance
Harvard Yale - residential, with one delightful block of restaurants, bookstore
9th and 9th - local shopping and dining within walking distance of each other
Millcreek - more residential, shops and restaurants are more spread apart
University - one stretch of restaurants
Avenues - residential, with several lovely cafes, restaurants spread throughout
Downtown - high rises, lots of restaurants and shops close together, gateway Mall, Temple Square, City Creek Center Mall
South Salt Lake - Larger blocks, more suburban in feel, shopping and food spread apart
